STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math, and all of these are important to include in a preschooler's education. In some ways they seem lofty, but be assured, they are not. Young children, even as young as toddlers, not only have a natural curiosity for STEAM, but they are also good at it!  Preschoolers need time and exposure to science, technology, engineering, art, and math to develop a strong foundation for future learning by exploring STEAM skills and concepts through play and discussion. And then applying those skills through more play!

 

We fully believe physical activities and academics can be integrated into the same program to provide your child with the best education experience possible.  It has been proven that physical activity promotes brain growth and development in young children.  Each week, children receive a 45-minute gymnastics class instructed by an experienced fitness coach. Gymnastics involves crossing the mid-line.  Crossing the body’s mid-line is an important developmental skill needed for many everyday tasks such as writing, reaching towards your foot to put on a shoe and sock with both hands and hitting a ball with a bat. When a child spontaneously crosses the mid-line with the dominant hand, then the dominant hand gets the practice needed to develop good fine motor skills by repeated consistent hand dominance. If a child avoids crossing the mid-line, then both hands tend to get equal practice at developing skills and the child’s true handedness may be delayed. This means that once a child starts school, learning to write is much more difficult when they have two less skilled hands rather than one stronger, more skilled (dominant) hand. Difficulty crossing the mid-line also makes it difficult to visually track a moving object from one side to the other or track from left to right when reading, meaning reading can also be delayed.

 

Our program is designed to ensure your child’s seamless transition to Kindergarten.  Children will have the opportunity to learn about themselves, each other, and the world around them through meaningful, enriching experiences.  We will strive each and every day to prepare your child intellectually, emotionally and physically for Kindergarten.

By including movement with each academic session, the children’s reading and math scores can go up by 10% as stated in the S.M.I.L.E. study which was conducted in Florida several years ago.
